Our Vision

County Highlights-To see what we do for the community, view our county highlights.

The Ohio State University Extension Office, Mahoning County, collaborates with individuals, families, businesses and other organizations to bring educational and community-engaging activities to the Mahoning Valley. Focusing on critical economic, environmental, youth and family issues, Mahoning Extension strives to bring knowledge and resources using cutting-edge strategies and new technologies to farmers, gardeners, children, seniors and everyone in between. Hosting programs from 4-H to Y-town Garden Partners, Mahoning Extension brings its resources and our researchers' expertise to rural, suburban and urban areas of our county. Our Program Areas

Our programs range in expertise from plants to poultry. If you have a question about any of the following topics, please visit the department's page. If our site isn't giving you the answers you're seeking, feel free to email our staff, call or stop by the office. Not sure where to direct your question? Agriculture/Natural Resources
The Agriculture/Natural Resources program works with individuals, communities and organizations to bring information to you door.

Programs include: Master GardenersOhio Certified Volunteer Naturalists  and the Good Natured Garden Partners Program.

4-H Youth Development 
Coordinates community clubs and programs such as CARTEENS.

 Family and Consumer Sciences
These educators oversee programs that help the Valley with everything from finances to living a healthier lifestyle.

Programs include: Family Nutrition Program (FNP), EFNEP and the new Mahoning Valley Saves.

The Ohio State University has begun a new fund-raising campaign to support students from all 88 Ohio counties. The "Ohio Scholarship Challenge" seeks to raise $100 million in general undergraduate scholarship funds for Ohio State students at all campuses. This Challenge is also part of the university’s larger effort to raise $500 million in private funds for student financial aid and scholarships. The Ohio Scholarship Challenge honorary co-chairs are Ohio State head football Coach Urban Meyer and men’s basketball Coach Thad Matta.
