OSU Extension in Mahoning County brings people and ideas together to address many challenges faced by all the people in our county and communities. Our successes are not only the work of the staff, but the support of our partners. This includes the Mahoning County Commissioners, nutrition education sites, volunteers, program sponsors and more. Our staff collaborate closely with these partners to actively engage clientele right where they live and work in Mahoning County. Major efforts in 2017 resulted in:
• Expanded efforts and outreach through 343 volunteers in 4-H, horticulture, community gardening and nature. Volunteers gave thousands of hours per program, including over 7,000 hours given by Master Gardener Volunteers and Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists.
• Continued partnerships with 134 agencies and non-profits to conduct outreach programs in nutrition.
• Engaged youth programming with 49 community 4-H clubs throughout the county, in conjunction with volunteers and families.
