The Naturalist Series invites subject matter experts to share their knowledge and research regarding different aspects of nature. Topics range from animals, plants, insects, and more. All events cost $5 per class or $30 for the 2026 Naturalist Series. Classes are held at 6:30 pm in the Mahoning County Extension Office.
Ohio’s Bats: The Master Class

Speaker: Todd Cartner, Citizen Scientist, OCVN, Founder and Co-Owner of Discover Bats Ohio
This program explores Ohio’s bats and their importance to our ecosystems. Instructor Todd Cartner will share common and lesser-known facts, current bat research in Ohio, and the roles bats play in agriculture and human health. Learn about Ohio’s bat species, their conservation status, the impacts of white-nose syndrome, and how conservation efforts—and you—can help support their recovery.
