Naturalist Series: Prehistoric People and Tools of Ohio

The Naturalist Series invites subject matter experts to share their knowledge and research regarding different aspects of nature. Topics range from animals, plants, insects, and more. All events cost $5 per class or $30 for the 2026 Naturalist Series. Classes are held at 6:30 pm in the Mahoning County Extension Office.

Speaker: John Chuey, a founding member of the Mahoning Valley Archaeological Society

John Chuey, a founding member of the Mahoning Valley Archaeological Society with more than 35 years of experience, will present an illustrated talk exploring the lives of prehistoric peoples through the tools they left behind. The program will delve into flint and stone tools, ancient manufacturing techniques, and the many practical and cultural roles these tools played in daily survival. Attendees will gain insight into how early peoples shaped stone into essential implements that defined their way of life.
