    2025 Garden Art Series The Mahoning County Master Gardeners will lead hands-on garden art demonstrations that participants will be able to make and take home. Workshops run on the second Wednesday of the month April-December at 6:30 pm in the Mahoning County Extension Office. All workshops cost $25 per participant.

  5. Naturalist Series: The Geology & History of Coal Mines in Mahoning County

    Presenter: Diana Alexander, Geologist and Educator at Mill Creek MetroParks Join as we dig deep into the geology and history of coal mines in Mahoning County.  We will travel back in time over 300 million years ago to learn how and why coal was deposited in the area and discover more about the mining operations that took place.     Growing Degree Days Did you ever wonder what calendar nature uses?  How does nature know when it is time for buds to open and insects to emerge?  Find out what nature uses for a calendar and how to access and use nature’s calendar with Growing Degree Days.  Learn how to use Growing Degree Days to manage pests and time herbicide applications.  And learn about Phenology, which is another way to access nature's calendar.
