Learn How to Take Venison from Harvest to Table at Hands-On Workshop

CANFIELD, Ohio — Hunters and others interested in learning more about preparing venison are invited to attend Venison 101: Harvest to Table, a hands-on workshop offered by OSU Extension Mahoning County on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The workshop will walk participants through the complete process of harvesting and preparing venison, from field dressing to cooking. Participants will learn about harvesting, gutting and butchering, as well as making jerky and sausage, preserving venison through canning and freezing, and cooking tips and nutrition.

Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy venison tacos courtesy of the Ohio Division of Wildlife.

“Venison 101” will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at Building 26 at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield. The cost is $30, which covers educational materials.

OSU Extension helps Ohioans use research-based information and practical education to make informed decisions, build skills and strengthen their communities.

Pre-registration is required. Participants can register by calling the Mahoning County Extension Office at 330-533-5538. A participant’s spot is reserved once payment is received. Youth must register and attend with an adult.
