The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a basic nutrition, food safety, and food resource management education program that is funded through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). EFNEP is offered at a variety of community sites throughout Mahoning County and combines new information with interactive activities, food samplings and physical activity. Provided in a series of classes, EFNEP targets any caregivers of children 18 years and younger, and is available free of charge. Some income restrictions apply.

In 2009, EFNEP celebrated its 40th year as a federally-funded program.
