2024 Garden Art Series

Join the Mahoning County Master Gardeners for the 2024 Garden Art Series. The OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers will lead hands-on garden art demonstrations that participants will be able to make and take home. 

Workshops run on select dates April-December at 6 pm in the Mahoning County Extension Office.
All workshops cost $25 per participant. 

Dates and Topics:

  • April 10thRock Painting   – Anissa DiLeo
    • Join us for an evening of fun as we paint garden rocks together. The class will include tips and hints to keep your rocks looking vibrant and long lasting. Come with a plan for set of ten rocks or let your creative side run wild with all the adorable examples provided. All ages and abilities are welcome to paint with us!
  • May 8thHummingbird Feeder   – Pam Baytos and Pat Murphy
    • Attract hummingbirds by creating this feeder using a wine bottle, beads, and wire. Fill with our recipe for hummingbird food and sit back and enjoy the show. 
  • June 12thTopiary Turtle  – Pam Baytos and Diane Leonard
    • Join us when we create this whimsical topiary turtle addition for your garden.  All materials are supplied including some plants to get you started but bring your gloves and a pair of needle nose pliers.
  • July 10thPlanted Garden Implement (Herbs)  – Pam Baytos and Beth Sanders
    • Bring us your old rusty shovel and we’ll show you how to transform it into a one-of-a-kind planter. All materials will be provided including some herb plants to help get you started, but  you may want to bring your gloves and a pair of needle nose pliers.
    August 14th: Infused Vinegar with Garden Fresh Herbs  – Anissa A. DiLeo
    • Preserve fresh flavors from the garden long after the growing season by creating a decorative bottle of infused vinegar.  Each student will receive a packet of recipes and they will each fill, design, and seal a bottle with unique flavor combinations of herbs and spices, perfect to use, display, or give as a gift.
    September 11thInk Pots  – Pam Baytos and Lil Quaranta 
    • Learn to make decorative pots for the garden and patio using alcohol and inks. All materials and a pot will be provided per participant!
    October 9thHoliday Cards  – Peg Zeleznik
    • Add a touch of handmade charm to your season's greetings with our DIY holiday cards. Fill hearts with joy and mantels with beauty with your custom-designed holiday cards.

    November 13thHoliday Containers  – Pam Baytos
    • Join us for a look at turning your pots into holiday masterpieces! We’ll cover form and style, along with finding and using several kinds of greenery, berries, and other cuttings from your landscape.

    • NOTE: Bring up to a 12” diameter pot to fill during the class to get a leg up on your holiday designs.  Leave soil in the pot and cut off plants, do not dig. This will help the design stay in place.

  • November 21st: Holiday Gnomes  – Natalie Fraser
    • Join us to create a Holiday Gnome! These gnomes are great Holiday Decorations for your front porch or any outdoor space you want to add some holiday cheer. All Materials are supplied, but you may want to bring your own pruners and gloves!
  • December 17th: Holiday Centerpieces  – Pam Baytos
    • Join us to make your own festive centerpiece for the holiday season!​ All materials are supplied, but you may want to bring your own pruners and gloves!
