2026 Garden Art Series

The Mahoning County Master Gardeners will lead hands-on garden art demonstrations that participants will be able to make and take home.

Workshops run on Wednesdays** April-December at 6:30 pm in the Mahoning County Extension Office.

  • April–October Garden Art workshops cost $25 per participant. 
  • November–December Holiday Garden Art Workshops are $35.
  • Holiday Garden Art workshops require pre-payment to secure your spot. No refunds. 

 

Garden Art Series ($25)

Dates and Topics:

  • April 8: Barn Quilt Painting  – Anissa DiLeo
    • Join us for a paint-by-number barn quilt. These are a form of American Folk Art that celebrates rural areas and agriculture traditions. In this class we will learn practical techniques and fun hints to create a pleasing color palette pattern to complete an unsealed 24in x 24in Barn quilt. All supplies need to create the piece will be included during the class.
  • May 13: Garden Party Coasters  – Peg Zeleznik 
    • Looking to add whimsy to your garden party décor? Join us to create a set of 4 coasters themed with your choice of flowers, birds, plants, or other nature scenes! 
  • June 10: Microwave Flower Press  – Peg Zeleznik 
    • Join us to assemble a microwave flower press.  After decorating the top tile, we'll discuss how to dry flowers and natural materials for your crafting needs.
  • July 8: Garden Peace Poles  – Pam Baytos  
    • A garden art pole is a fun, creative way to add color and personality to your landscape without taking up much space. A primed 4x4 wooden post, paints, and shared stencils will be provided—just bring your design ideas! Please note: due to drying time, your pole may not be fully finished, but you may take supplies home to complete it. 
  • August 12: Botanical Gelli Prints   – Diane Leonard 
    • Learn the basics of Gelli Plate Printing. Together, we will use soft, flexible Gelli plates to create unique, one-of-a-kind botanical prints, called monoprints.
  • September 9: Rock Painting   – Anissa DiLeo 
    • Join us for an evening of fun as we paint garden rocks together. The class will include tips and hints to keep your rocks looking vibrant and long-lasting. Come with a plan for a set of ten rocks or let your creative side run wild with all the adorable examples provided. All ages and abilities are welcome to paint with us!
  • October 14: Garden Aprons  – Pam Baytos  
    • Be the envy of your gardening friends after you join us to paint a garden apron.  Wearing your apron means your clothes will stay clean(er) with a handy pocket for your tools. All materials will be supplied with a few stencils to share.  Bring your design ideas!  

Holiday Garden Art Series ($35)

  • November 18: Holiday Containers  – Pam Baytos  
    • Join us to turn your pots into holiday masterpieces! We’ll cover form and style, along with finding and using several kinds of greenery, berries, and other cuttings from your landscape. NOTE: Bring up to a 12” diameter pot to fill during the class to get a leg up on your holiday designs. Leave soil in pot and cut off plants, do not dig. This will help the design stay in place.
  • November 19: Holiday Gnomes  – Natalie Fraser *** Thursday*** 
    • Join us to create a Holiday Gnome! These gnomes are great Holiday Decorations for your front porch or any outdoor space you want to add some holiday cheer. All Materials are supplied, but you may want to bring your own pruners and gloves!
  • December 8: Holiday Centerpieces  – Pam Baytos **Tuesday** 
    • Join us to make your own festive centerpiece for the holiday season. All supplies needed to create the piece will be included during the class. You are free to bring in holiday additives to add to your centerpiece if you desire. 
  • December 9: Holiday Centerpieces  – Pam Baytos 
    • Join us to make your own festive centerpiece for the holiday season. All supplies needed to create the piece will be included during the class. You are free to bring in holiday additives to add to your centerpiece if you desire.
