2025 Garden Art Series

The Mahoning County Master Gardeners will lead hands-on garden art demonstrations that participants will be able to make and take home.

Workshops run on the second Wednesday of the month** April-December at 6:30 pm in the Mahoning County Extension Office.
All workshops cost $25 per participant. 

Dates and Topics:

  • April 9th: Botanical Cards  – Peg Zeleznik
    • Looking to brighten your days with some flowers?  In this garden art class, we will cover at least 3 methods of how to use press flowers on cards, bookmarks, or table lanterns.
  • May 14th: Barn Quilt Painting  – Anissa DiLeo
    • Barn quilts are a form of American Folk Art that celebrates rural areas and agricultural traditions. In this class, we will learn practical techniques and fun hints to create a pleasing color palette pattern to complete an unsealed 24in x 24in Barn quilt. All supplies needed to create the piece will be included during the class. 
  • June 11thBird House Gourds  – Pam Baytos 
    • Join us as we turn a dried birdhouse gourd into a cozy home for your feathered friends.  After cleaning out your gourd we'll decorate it turning it into a colorful oasis for your nesting birds.
  • July 9thFairy Garden  – Natalie Fraser
    • Miniature gardens filled with magic! Tiny houses, chairs, lawns, and ponds - fairy worlds that you can create in any space you have – inside or out. Learn how to create your very own fairy garden!
    August 13th: Microwave Flower Press  – Pam Baytos
    • Join us to assemble a microwave flower press.  After decorating the top tile, we'll discuss how to dry flowers and natural materials for your crafting needs.
    September 10thRock Painting  – Anissa DiLeo 
    • Join us for an evening of fun as we paint garden rocks together. The class will include tips and hints to keep your rocks looking vibrant and long-lasting. Come with a plan for a set of ten rocks or let your creative side run wild with all the adorable examples provided. All ages and abilities are welcome to paint with us!
    October 8thPlant Markers  – Diane Leonard
    • Join us as we explore a variety of plant markers.  Leave with samples of polymer clay markers and stamped metal plant identifiers

    November 12thHoliday Containers  – Pam Baytos
    • Join us for a look at turning your pots into holiday masterpieces! We’ll cover form and style, along with finding and using several kinds of greenery, berries, and other cuttings from your landscape.

    • NOTE: Bring up to a 12” diameter pot to fill during the class to get a leg up on your holiday designs.  Leave soil in the pot and cut off plants, do not dig. This will help the design stay in place.

  • November 20thHoliday Gnomes  – Natalie Fraser ** Only Thursday Class**
    • Join us to create a Holiday Gnome! These gnomes are great Holiday Decorations for your front porch or any outdoor space you want to add some holiday cheer. All Materials are supplied, but you may want to bring your own pruners and gloves!

    December 9th: Holiday Centerpieces  – Pam Baytos **Only Tuesday class***
    • Join us to make your own festive centerpiece for the holiday season!​ All materials are supplied, but you may want to bring your own pruners and gloves!
